The DJSE forum is a simple drop-in threaded forum with management features, suitable for adding discussion facilities to existing websites with their existing user management systems. The system supports multiple forums within the same installation, with as many distinct moderators as required for each forum.
Threads are displayed in a paginated view, and sorted by date last modified - so active threads always appear at the top of the front page. Datestamps highlight threads that have been edited today, or yesterday so users can see at a glance if there is new content.
Messages are displayed in a simple layout with no clutter - while most forum systems overwhelm users with links to personal preferences, avatars, and so on, we recognise that on some websites all you want is a discussion forum for the exchange of information, not a "community experience" with all the support problems that arise from it.
Sadly, forums are sometimes used to provide anonymity for users who wish to make libelous comments. Behind the scenes we record IP addresses and other CGI details, so there is a good audit trail to identify miscreants.
The simple user interface ensures that the less technically literate user can easily post messages to the forum. All links and buttons are text-based - the system uses no image files, so it is easily accessible to the visually impaired and users with screen readers.
Moderation controls can be activated, whereby messages do not appear on the forum until approved by the moderator. To support this, there is a feature that allows users to report offensive postings.
The moderation controls are based on emails and simple web forms. They are as straightforward as the forum - your moderators do not need to be technically adept to manage the forums.
